Since childhood, worry has been my constant companion. Concerns about my mother returning after arguments with my father over money, anxiety over my academic performance, fear of bullies at school, and insecurities about my appearance plagued my thoughts. I battled with low self-esteem, exacerbated by persistent skin issues. It wasn’t until I reached 18 that I experienced my first taste of love, but it proved fleeting, leaving me feeling disillusioned when he departed abruptly the next day.
Financial worries compounded my anxiety, as my father’s limited financial support barely covered basic necessities, let alone any semblance of a social life. Travel remained a distant dream until I ventured into work at 21, leading a group of students on a tour to Perth as a freelance guide. This marked the beginning of my journey toward independence, as I explored Fremantle Market, Fremantle Prison, and Margaret River while fostering my entrepreneurial spirit.
At 26, I took the leap into entrepreneurship, establishing my own handmade jewelry business, which eventually afforded me the means to travel. Bali and Hong Kong became my first destinations, opening my eyes to the world beyond my worries. Subsequently, my career with Estée Lauder provided opportunities for global travel, a dream realized with gratitude to a higher power.
Reflecting on my journey, I recognize the importance of financial literacy, learned through the guidance of friends who taught me the value of investment. This knowledge paved the way for homeownership upon marriage, despite the uncertainties of entrepreneurship.
Now, at 47, as I contemplate the next chapter of my journey, I find myself drawn to the prospect of mentoring others, sharing the lessons gleaned from years of navigating the turbulent waters of business ownership.
Through it all, I’m reminded of the unyielding grace of the divine, whose providence has guided me through every trial and triumph. And though the road ahead may be uncertain, I am anchored by the knowledge that with faith as my compass, there is no limit to what I can achieve.
